Question about SA+

Ds1 has an IEP and is on school action plus. He has literally just received his hfa/aspergers diagnosis so I know I will have more weight behind my concerns with school.

This may not seem like an issue to you but ds1 is very academically able (when the work is explained in words he understands) his difficulties lie more with personal care (came home in poo pants yet again on Friday as he doesn't think to wipe him bum if not reminded), not understanding what is expected of him and having meltdowns if he gets it wrong, he also has a functional motor delay and sensory issues.

As he's academically able his teacher doesn't see his issues and treats him like he's naughty. The senco is wonderful but the only additional help provision is 5 x 30 mins a week for language links.

My question finally can you request more 1:1 help with non-academic issues like his sensory/motor skills/personal hygiene lack of or is that not "schools problem". I keep getting told there are 29 other pupils in the class and they don't have time to help him with things like making sure his shoes are on properly, he wipes his bum etc.

Fab. He's currently on an intensive OT course and they said they will be inviting his senco to one of the sessions. I have an OT report and I'm sure school have a copy but it doesn't give advice for school. What exactly should I ask the OT for? I feel I can be more pushy now it's "official".

You've been amazing on these boards though polter I don't think you realise how much you help!

Thank you. There is always something standing in the way of their needs. So frustrating!
