Just applied for SA - Pathfinder yes or no?

I applied for SA for DS last week. I have just received a package through from the LA saying that they are part of the pathfinder scheme for the new EHC, would we like to participate? My first reaction is that it might make even more work for me during what is already going to be a difficult process. Then again, if my application is unsuccessful this time this is what I'll have to do next time, so might as well get used to it.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience?

You know what? I would usually advise no, but I would worry due to timings that this might get you an outright rejection.

Perhaps ask to make up your mind after the SA has revealed the extent of your child's difficulties!?

To be honest I'm expecting an outright rejection anyway. Having seen the struggles others have had with children more severely affected than mine. I might ring up IPSEA and see what they think.

If you're truly expecting outright rejection then personally I would go for the statement on the basis that the process is properly defined. A rejection now means you are still within the timeframe to appeal. We here can support you with the process as can IPSEA.

With the new system, there will be myths and rumours and inconsistencies that no-one will be able to verify or not with confidence.

We started on the SA Pathfinder, and so far it has been one huge cock up after another, so from my experience, I would say avoid!

We have had to switch back to traditional statement process, which has just delayed everything.

Having looked through the paperwork it appears that what they would do is both processes in parallel, so that if successful you end up with both a statement and an EHC. I'm tired tonight and going to look through it all again properly tomorrow. Am waiting on a call back from Parent Partnership and will probably contact IPSEA or SOSSEN.
