ANNUAL REVIEW - WHAT HAPPENS?

hi! looking for advice form those esperienced in annual reviews....

DS annual review has been brought forward (got statement in Oct) and is next week. This is essentially because his 20 hours are woefully inadequate, and even with full time 1:1 provided by the school is still struggling with anxiety in school, being taught on his own, not coping at lunch, going out to play with an adult only..and this is still challenging.

We have a form to fill in regarding how we think it is going and what we think needs to happen.

But how does the review actually work? Will LA have their plan of what they want to happen at the outset? or is this genuinely a review and fresh eyes look at needs?

Hi,
Doubt it will be fresh outlook. School should give you their views and observations before the review. Fill in the form you were given and attach a letter with what you think your child needs in terms of support at school plus your comments on what the scholl say. Bring it all to the meeting, take a friend with you to keep notes and ask to see the finalised form before it is send to the LA. Once it is sent to the LA you should find out who handles your child's case and communicate with them directly. Add all other professional assessments and letters that support your opinions of what your child needs.
Good luck!

thanks. I had not thought of asking to see what school will be providing....I'll do that.
