My DS can't play

DS 2 (3 years 9 months) has a syndrome with delayed development and autistic traits.
Christmas highlighted his lack of interest in toys and play.
He has repetitive habits such as page flicking (previously spinning and strings) and just wants the iPad.

We have dabbled with ABA with good success around language skills.
My question is, can you train your child to play? And if so, is it beneficial?

I know our ABA supervisor recommended intensive modelling of play but if my DS has no interest what is the point?

Thanks (sorry not been on the board for ages been on the health board more recently but still appreciate the expertise here).

No words of wisdom but we also have an iPad loving obsessive page flicker here! We are doing ABA and our DS has started on some play programs but he isn't showing interest in playing with the toys yet without being prompted. He does like things that have a set pattern to them such as peg boards, jigsaws and sometimes colouring books but nothing that requires imagination yet.
Watching this thread with interest.

Same as BoobyBum. I dont think imaginary play can come till there is language.. Mine has some receptive now.
