which carseat (again - sorry!)

we are looking for a carseat for ds (3.6)

he has low muscle tone, can walk but tires easily, has a tom cross stroller issued by wheelchair services and receives hr mobility. he has a tendency to slump to one side, and his head flops especially when tired.

He needs a 5 point harness as he is able to get out of a seatbelt, I would also like it to have a swivel base, as it can be a killer on the back getting him in and out. He also has had seizure like episodes in the car, and getting him out after this can be very hard.

we have citroen xsara picasso, and have to fit 3 across the back (either me, booster and ds's seat or 2 boosters and ds's seat) of course we could change car and get a motability, but I think we'd rather stick with the one we have for now.

Any recommendations for seats? I have seen the recaro starlight and carrot 3 mentioned, but don't know much about them.

Also does it seem likely we would get funding to assist with getting one? I can get supporting letters from OT and physio.

ThankyouSmile

Carrott 3 is really good and supportive. Swivel base and can go up to 10 or so. Ours was charity funded fully. Just as well as it was over £2K. Ouch. Physcap was the charity.

Thanks sneezecakesmum - it does look like a brilliant carseat -did you have someone come out to assess and fit? I would like to actually see one in action, but it seems to be quite hard to see them, or even find info on the internet. Which is crazy when you think how much money they are.

Was there a reason you chose the carrot over the recaro?

Dont know if they are national hazey but there is a charity called Newlife who fund buggies, carseats, wheelchairs and that kind of equipment.
They have just funded a LO I work with for a buggy Smile

Thanks Ineed, I will have a look at them.

Had a long chat with ds about it today, and he thinks we maybe should change the car to a motability one and look at wav vehicles. Not sure what we would be looking at then?

Your local OT can probably loan/ give you a crelling to try. It works in addition to a normal child seat. Doesn't solve the swivel thing but is a relatively cheap/ free option if if works. www.crelling.com/CB%20CHILD%20SEAT.html

Sorry crelling here
