Consultations with Donna Williams

We've started having consultations with /link{http://www.donnawilliams.net/front.0.html?&L=0/Donna Williams} for help in tackling some challenging behaviours that I don't really understand the reasons for. Also hope to move onto looking at communication in more depth.

Anyway we've had the first one, and it is absolutely excellent, very quick response, very detailed and really spot on. Lots of practical advice on how to deal with the behaviours (covering behaviour, biomedical dietary stuff and also medication- so lots of alternatives to think about).

She costs 60 Aus Dollars an hour, which is currently around £24.

That looks really good Jimjams, i havent read her book, have you read it?

She's published quite a few, I've read some but not others (although they're on my list). She seems very good at understanding how other autistic people are experiencing the world. Although high functioning, she seems very aware of how the world is for those who are not as high functioning as well. I'm very impressed.

Have spent the last hour looking through her website (despite my promise to myself to go to bed EARLY tonight). Very very interesting, especially the stuff on exposure anxiety and norepinephrine. I'm pretty sure DS2 has exposure anxiety - imaybe all autistic children do, I don't know. If he interacts directly with someone he has to run off for a while and do his own thing before coming back again (or not!) And it goes a long way towards explaining why he hates questions, testing, performing etc.

Heavy article though. It's all right for you scientists - Dickens and George Eliot aren't a whole lot of help here...
