Present foe SEN officer

Hi, I was trying to find a Christmas present for my SEN officer. I thought long and hard about what she hasn't got but I can't find "seeds of integrity" in any garden centre locally. She really could do with growing some...... Anyone know where they might be sold?

Did you meet with him because of your issues or a separate matter?

2tirednot2fight · 12/12/2013 21:00

Both. It was the early days of the children and families bill so we took the opportunity to discuss how awful the SEN team were. To be fair this was followed by an Ofsted inspection and the LA grade was reduced to inadequate, I am sure other things were going on in the county but regardless things have just got worse from then not better.

A very big well done on following these discrimination cases through. I am really amazed at your efforts ladies and proud to be a member of this board,

Every time someone stands firm and refuses to be pushed around, they do that little bit more for all the children following. Hard to see this in the SEN world but I do think disability discrimination is a much more 'mainstream' issue.

And from what I have been told, Ofsted do take equality issues seriously even if they are weak on SEN. These issues get too easily compartmentalised.

So perhaps the best. Christmas present we could give all these SEN officers is a copy of these disability discrimination judgments!

The school that discriminated are due an Ofsted inspection soon so I suppose they may be interested, particularly if the school doesn't, as ordered, apologise to the child for the distress caused by their actions.
There were also other unlawful things going on that I have evidence of and threats made to us. Apparently, because of their reputation with the LA and Ofsted, they said it was clear that they were not a school that would ever discriminate. 4 counts!!! Angry

Hi IE - what's up today? I'm the usual namechanger that's chatted to you before.

2tirednot2fight · 12/12/2013 21:14

Why don't you send a copy if the tribunal judgement to Ofsted and ask them to pass it to the inspecting officer so the contents are taken into account? The inspection I refer to is very recent but they have sent someone into the school again since and I await the report, I am not too hopeful but it is only right that I wait and see I guess. I am just horrified the recent inspection which was recent is so demonstrably false.

I agree with 2tired on sending the report in.

Thanks for asking about me. Felt a bit reticent about sharing as I am sure they watch me! However, I've nothing to hide.

They agreed an out of school package for DS under s 319. We asked a mediator to get involved. Final agreement reached last week. LA lawyer said statement would be sent out.

We asked about funding.

They said they were having a 'budget holders' meeting today.

Today comes, no decision about funding (ie direct payments) but new working document (yes new WD issued) with return to mainstream slipped in for 2014.

No discussion about it and final statement already agreed. No evidence to support this. Even LA EP says a decision about secondary cannot be made until we have had a period of stability in DS education. We also have evidence from a clinical psychologist advising specifically against this.

So they have just opened everything up again.

He's been out of school for 7 months and they've done bollocks all.

Why do they treat parents like this, a working document and the underhand behaviour really is too much. This is how one behave too they lead you up the garden path, you start to think that things will improve and then they stab you in the back and let your child down giving you further angst and preventing any possibility of working together. I just don't get it but feel it must be an issue of power which they need to misuse.

A Pathfinder champion they are too. Well done Timpson and your reforms for rewarding crap like this.

2tirednot2fight · 12/12/2013 22:16

I didn't know they were pathfinder champions, Timpson really hasn't done much that's positive has he? Your LA also turned around its rating as an authority in record time, I wonder what that's all about? I live in a rural Conservative stronghold and feel that the experiences we have had are a reflection of local attitudes to disability and difference. Do you think that could be part of the problem in your neck of the woods too?

Yes. No urban centres. Smug Tories abound. Elected members all appear to be elderly Tory gents or ladies of a certain age with Margaret Thatcher type suits,

2tirednot2fight · 12/12/2013 22:24

So how the blooming hell do you challenge firmly held beliefs which are so far removed from your own values?
