Friendship books for older boys

Trying to find some books for ds (7) with subtle social stories woven into them. I can find loads of books suitable for little ones, with loads of picture books about friendship, but ds has definitely outgrown this (he has already read the hobbit and is getting the lord of the rings for xmas). There are also loads of tween girls friendship books but I really need the in-between-age/boy equivalent.
Any ideas?

How about Harry Potter? Lots of friendship-themed moments in them.

Also try The Lost Prince by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A bit old fashioned but in a good way and a 'buddy movie' in book form!

Thanks bluebird, He's not keen on Harry Potter as it's too scary for him. He says the Lord of the Rings is OK cos its not real, whereas HP is scary things happening to real children. I will definitely try The Lost Prince though.
I have come across this as well which I think might be OK. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0141318775/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE reviews say: "This book would be a good one to use with children who feel they 'cause' upsets and for whom life seems to be one big problem after another" and "very readable, original and gives exceptional insight into the world of someone who feels 'outside' the norm." Sounds like it might be a good option for ASD boys.

Emil and the Detectives is an old book, but has lots of social story stuff in it (it's about a boy who has money stolen from him, and joins a gang of boys to get it back) - link here
