Anyone given melatonin to their baby?

Ds2 is 8 months, has Williams syndrome. Recently had open heart surgery. He never slept well before but is now awful. If he sleeps at all it's for an hour at most.

Cardiologist prescribed melatonin low dose. Been using for a month no improvement. Went to gp for higher dose. Been on that a week and I think it's worse. He is wise awake within the hour of giving it and can take 4 hours to go to sleep (then it's only for an hour).

Any advice?

Melatonin will only work if your baby isn't getting enough sleep signals. It won't work if there is a reason for the wakefulness that overrides sleepiness.

Is he distressed when he wakes? Have you investigated whether he may have reflux or some other condition that is waking him from sleep?

How low is the low dose? Cos 'higher' doses can have the opposite effect.

Ds is 10y old, 25kg, and has 1-2mg.
