MRI scan

The paed has told us that when DD has her MRI scan it will probably tell us when her CP happened.

I dont understand how it works and how they know when DD was affected, please would someone mind explaining it to me?

all I know is when dd had hers it was able o show them where the damage was which gave them an idea when it happened.
