Hi

My partner has a son from a previous relationship who I think shows signs of autism but he has not been diagnosed.

Since I met him he has always slept in the bed with his dad. When we moved in together we set up his own room but still at age 4 he will not sleep in his own bed even with his dad in the room.

His mother admits she sleeps with him at home and my partner does not want to give him a bad weekend trying to leave him in his own bed.

I am finding it difficult to sleep alone every other weekend without any sign he is progressing to his own bed let alone his own room. Am I being harsh by suggesting he keep trying?

I think that is really harsh. I wouldn't personally find it hard to not share with a partner. I just don't understand and I think you very possibly need to address some jealousy issues here.

He obviously needs his dad overnight. I wouldn't find this problematic even for a 4 yo without any additional needs.

I agree with Polter. My ds is 4 and can not cope with sleeping on his own. My ds will do it when he is ready.

Does your partner agree that his ds shows signs of autism?

I once had a partner who had 2 sons who spent weekends with us. Dp would often end up going to their bed in the night if they woke and falling asleep with them.

I thought it was really sweet and showed how caring he was.
