LGO - wow in a good way.

Having berated the LGO for their poor practice, I have to, in all fairness, come on here and say, wow!

I have two ongoing complaints with them at the moment and the difference in approach from my complaint a couple of years ago has been utterly amazing.

Clear letters written asking for evidence to the LA and copies sent to me. I have been kept up to date all the way through.

Whatever the outcome, it makes you feel so much better not having to fight the Ombudsman too. Shock

That's good news. Well done for keeping going.

My case has just been assigned to an investigator. I had a long thorough conversation with her on the phone. At last someone seems to be taking me seriously.

tryingtokeepintune · 14/11/2013 15:39

Wonder what has changed.

senmerrygoround · 14/11/2013 16:46

Thank God, we have enough battles to fight without having to fight the Ombudsman who is there to help us.

But then again, so are the other people who we have to fight Hmm

sazale · 14/11/2013 19:34

I've just had the final report from the ombudsman and I've got to say she has been really good all the way through the process!

StarlightMcKenzie · 14/11/2013 20:32

This is heartening to read. I wonder what has happened.

fobbedoffagain · 14/11/2013 20:40

I'm glad that there are some positive experiences but this has not been true in my case Sad. Their report basically agreed with exactly what the LA had said and that they believe that LA's can choose not to abide by the law if they so wish Hmm. I am responding with my views but I doubt this will make much difference so will then escalate it higher. What is the point of creating educational laws that can just be ignored?

inappropriatelyemployed · 14/11/2013 20:51

I think they have reorganised the way they take in cases etc after the House of Commons report last year.

I don't know how recently the change took place.

Not to say outcome will be what I want but an improvement thus far,

Really glad to hear your good news IE but my experience has been the opposite. Number five complaint not even being investigated but it is an equality based issue so not really surprising as the officers I have come across don't really get that children with disabilities have rights and that these are embedded in legislation not to be ignored whenever LAs so choose.

I know that you have had to fight really hard to get where you are and I am so pleased that you are seeing results. Hope you keep on getting pleasant surprises.

inappropriatelyemployed · 17/11/2013 22:32

Don't get me wrong, I am convinced there are real problems with the organisation but if I slag them off for every misdeed, it only seemed fair to point out a positive sign!

I completely agree with you that they haven't a clue about rights either.

Yes it's right to acknowledge the positives and actually complaint number five has not been turned down completely yet so I should probably hold off complaining too although the current view is that it won't be investigated based in the unbalanced response of the LA, I am being given the opportunity to challenge their claims which I view as dishonest.

2tirednot2fight · 06/12/2013 12:51

Investigation number5 now agreed given the evidence I have submitted.........

TOWIELA · 06/12/2013 13:34

Well done for keeping going 2tired. It's exhausting tho, isn't it! We shouldn't have to being doing this.

StarlightMcKenzie · 06/12/2013 14:49

Blimey 2tired.

However, can I just say thank you. It matters that you pursue these things if and when you can. It matters very much for all of us.

2tirednot2fight · 07/12/2013 10:01

No Towiela, we shouldn't have to fight for every little thing, I just can't let the dishonesty and obvious discrimination go by without trying to question it, the further I have to escalate a matter though the angrier and more determined I get.

I think it's true Starlight that the more that the LAs that should rightly be shamed, are brought to the attention of regulatory bodies the better the impact for others not just those raising the issues. I wish there was a way of sharing outcomes safely so that the same dubious practices are not simply repeated in other authorities. Maybe a blog with a "every complaint outcome matters" section!

It's also quite possible that the investigation will drag onto to a point in time just outside of the remaining period I have to put in an EQA claim against the LA before the county court so that I am forced to choose one process over the other!

How's yours going IE?
