Expressive Language problem

I'm hoping for some information regarding DS2. He's been having Speech therapy since nursery (now 6.5) first with the NHS and more recently with a private therapist who attends the school and works with him and a TA.

I had a quick phone catch up with her yesterday as we've missed the last couple of sessions due to work commitments. I've been really pleased with his progress, but feel a bit deflated after the call yesterday. She has done an expressive language assessment which assessed DS as 4.5, so approximately two years behind his peers. DS has been struggling at school, particularly with reading and I am more concerned than ever following this diagnosis.

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Do you do work with him yourself?

The TA is doing three sessions a week with working through a programme she has used before.

The therapist thinks this is enough and likes the consistency of person working with him - I think she gets more out of him than we do! She does give us exercises to do over the holidays and gives regular updates - DH and I do try to attend with him, but we can't make it every week.
