I think I may need something a little bigger he weighs just over 3 stone already so would outgrow it very quickly , yes he was but think he would be able to free himself now he has the idea in his head . He is an escape artist by nature and often makes a bolt for it in most situations. Has even got past the security door at the school before now .

If you've got £500 to spend there's the Britax Traveller. A Crelling harness was enough to keep DS1 sitting where he should be, in his high backed booster, but DS2 just wriggled out of his, learnt to undo the actual seatbelt, etc.

If your car has manual window winders, then it might be worth investigating whether you can remove the back ones. When DS1 was 5, one of the requirements when we replaced our car, that year, was electric windows that you could isolate from the driver's window because he was a nightmare with opening windows, and then DS2 joined in kicking them open!!

Windows are not the only issue it's a Zaria and he has escaped into the back seats before now.

OT should be able to loan you a crelling on the NHS. Phone school nurse on Monday and ask her to refer urgently as it's a major safety issue. Or self-refer if your area allows.

We nearly did this but got some things off eBay instead. this and this though he needs this now

Houdini strap works for mine she's an escapist and have had to pull over on motorways in the past as she's un clipped her seat now using a Cosco imported from America which has a built in device on the harness part. Hope it helps, Houdini strap really helps worth a try x

I emailed Cerebra and they told me they would fund a Britax Xtensafix or Two Way Elite seat for my autistic son. Unfortunately he was too tall for both seats but he is 7.5 so your son will probably be OK for them.

3 stone is only 19kg, so quite a way from the weight limit :)

nappyaddict · 26/11/2013 16:16

There's also the triofix, triofix recline, mini kid, kidzone and the kidzofix car seats. I think the triofix ones can be harnessed to 36kg.

crelling will work for children who escape not for those who unclip.

admittedly this was a couple of years ago but crelling told me it requires the regular seat belt to be done up to be effective safety wise.

what you need is a very simple (and cheap) little plastic device that covers the seat belt clip and prevents access. I can't remember the name so will try and Google.

Otherwise I have one no longer needed you could have
