DS2's teacher mentioned recently that it might be that he has a problem with his visual memory. Despite pointing out numbers to him visually on a regular basis, he is (at 4yo) still really struggling to recognise numbers. He also struggles to recognise letters and is rarely able to recognise his name.
I've made flash cards with the numbers on one side and a corresponding number of dots on the other in order to practice his numbers 0-5 with him. After three days of going over them a couple times a day, he is only just approaching consistent with the numbers 1 and 2. He has said "2" quite a few times when he sees 5 and seems a bit annoyed that he's wrong on that one.
So... would it be too early to ask for some feedback into getting this checked somehow? (his visual memory and for dyslexia, I mean, as from what I've read, one often goes along with the other) Is it even possible to check at his age? What's the best route for this as this is completely different from the problems DS1 has had (he of the number obsessive!).
