My asd son is apparently going to be statemented - what does this include and is it in his best interests?

What age is your child? You dont have to have the school "statement" your child. YOu can do it on your own. My own child was statemented at age 3. I made the request myself, and now he is statemented before entering preschool.

Yep, its a minefield but there is lots of help. Go to the Ipsea site where there is a form letter to fill out if you want to make a request as a parent.

Basically yes it is a massive minefield, paperwork hell, form,s galore, refusals, and hard, hard work. But you just take it a step at a time, with suport from your child thereaposts, portge worker if you have one and IPSEA, and us of ciurse.

Once you have that statement, and the sooner you get it the better, then your childs nursery / school will be given the funds to provide an additional teacher who is there just for your son.

I had Lottie statemeted at about 3yrs old and shge has her own teacher for 10 hoursa week. When she goes to 'big school' in September she will have a 1-2-1 teacher for 25 hours a wwk.

I was refused a statement at first as the panel said that Lottie was "developing age appropriate skills". To which I basically said "bollocks, what's age appropriate about not walking and talking at 3yrs old?" So got my staement sorted.

It's hard work, but worht it in the end.
