my lo was three in july and has just started nursery. he doesnt speak. he can say maybe 50 words but very rarely uses them without prompting. if i ask him to show me a number or letter he can do it no problem. he's very affectionate and seems to understand what we say to him. he's been under speech and language for a year and has seen them five times. school keeps questioning his understanding because he wont do as he's told or join in group activities esp if he's doing something he's enjoying. am i worrying for nothing or does this sound familiar to some one? he makes good eye contact, isnt really phased by changes to routine very affectionate.

if you are under SALT, has your DS never had an assessment to see where his understanding is?

ever had a hearing test? if not, get his hearing checked.

I would probably push for a referral to a dev paed to get it investigated if his problems are purely speech and language related or if there are wider issues.
