Aspergers and Mental Health

I am posting on behalf of a friend.

Her son is 11, has Aspergers and has had mental health issues since he was about 7. He is in a private school which deals with dyslexia, Aspergers and general special needs but not behavioural issues. He is not statemented, previous school no help at all.

Over the summer and start of school the problems have escalated, he is refusing school and generally leaving the house, looking after himself, his diet has shrunk etc.. She has smaller children as well and finds herself trapped and scared for her younger children.

Social services have said they can't do anything, unless he is sectioned or close to being sectioned. He refuses to go to CAMHS.

What organisations can help her?
What do social services have to do?
Which tree's does she need to shake?

She needs to make him go to CAHMS. Is there a reason he is so resistant?

If he is at crisis then she needs to take him to A and E.

Hi Mummytime - I don't know why he is so resistant, think he has been before to CAMHS and it didn't help. He has just shut down as far as I can tell.

I found ESCO a really big help with giving out advise, also involving other agencies. Tonight we said good bye to our family support worker, he was god send. I wanted help, screamed and shouted for help, but each time we did not reach the criteria, thanks to help from ESCO, we finally got the help we needed. Give them a try, they may be able to help. Had an appointment at a local childrens centre within a week. Good luck
