You were working intensively with a consultant with your non verbal child on signing and told the school she had learned her first sign (for "hungry") and they just replied "We will try to monitor her more closely for the signs but it is more difficult in the school setting with the other pupils in the class".

very disappointed and angry

It is a bit crap but possibly you got a teacher on a bad day. Try agin, and again, until they get it. I am always immensely charming but totally persistent. Is it a "not invented here" sulk - ie they are pissed off because they didnt achieve this success themselves? Well done to your DD, that is the main thing!

Yes..I agree with you both in fact.

I am furious...and wrote a furious note.

BUt deleted it as I also agree you get further being charming to them rather than kicking their arses. It could be a not invented here sulk. I think its a slight sulk because they know DD talks a bit at home and now signs and doesn't at school (I am sure she is selectively mute).

Also teacher could have dashed that off in a rush. She is mainstream trained and has NT kids so maybe she doesn't quite get it..I know the HT would as her son is an ex pupil.

i have bitten my tongue and written a note asking them to please help with this. very sad we don't have teachers who share our excitement and drive about this but we won't create them by kicking their asses (sadly).
