Can anyone tell me if my local theatre can put this statement in their email "Please note there is no special needs support available in the group and 'KA' will have the final decision as to the suitability of the group for any young person that may need extra support."

[there has been a change of teacher] and do we have to conform if 'KA' decides our children are not suitable?

I have had dealings with 'KA' before. She asked my child to leave a previous group because she could not control his laughing [when it was other boys making him laugh].

The theatre have also doubled the yearly fee now that this new teacher is taking over the older group.

Thank you for help any help or advice you can give me.

are they aiming that email at you? Shock
agree with poltergoose - it must be in breach of the equality act

name changed to avoid outing myself.

I lead a youth theatre group in a community centre and am the only adult there. I have a veto on new members as well, this was in place when I took over. To pay another adult to be there would price the group out of the pockets of most of the members. We run on a not for profit basis. Our funders know this veto is in place and it does come under "reasonable adjustments" as it's on a person by person basis.

There are DCs with sen in the group and their needs are taken into account in the planning as much as possible. But others whose behaviour disrupts the group and demands too much of the leader's time, have had to be asked to leave because there is a limit as to how much one person can do. This hasn't happened in my time yet but I am prepared to use the veto if I have to.

The community centre used to run a drama club for children with special needs but lost the funding and thus could not pay a tutor. They are actively seeking further funding but it's very hard in the current climate.
