Hello! Can someone help! I have just been told that my ex is going to start paying regular maintenance into my bank - only been waiting 13 years! I just wondered if this will affect my carers allowance that I receive for our daughter? He's only going to pay £50 a month (wow!) If anyone can help, that would be ace!

Child Maintenance is ignored for Carers allowance and child tax credits. It is only earned income and income from letting a room in your house which affects carers allowance and you are allowed to have £100 earnings a week before Carers allowance is stopped. The Carers allowance is for you not your daughter, you get it for doing at least 35 hours caring a week. If you need further advice google Contact A Family or Carers Uk they have confidential telephone helplines . They can advise you specifically on Carers Allowance and also whether you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to and also tell you the impact of the child maintenance payments on any other benefit you may be receiving.
