Anxiety about going back to school

My DS who has suspected autism and/or SPD is very anxious about returning to school. He's been (on the whole) brilliant during the holidays but the last couple of days he's been talking in an aggressive voice, not listening or doing as he's told and babbling and using incomplete words. We've spoken to him and he admits he's worried but his behaviour is still deteriorating. I haven't expressed any anxiety myself to him about school but I'm not looking forward to it either. It's a lovely country school and some mums are lovely but some are rather judgemental (without knowing the full extent of his difficulties) and I can tell they look down on him and me when we get the 'can I have a word?' From the teacher. I'm returning to work after maternity shortly afterwards and my childminder still hasn't confirmed whether she can collect him on the days I work (long story) so I'm now thinking I should look at after school club when I wanted to avoid this.

oh, sounds like an anxious time for you both. Are school supporting him well with his difficulties? After-school club might not be awful, there may be a computer game he can play, and there may well be lots of space (including use of the playground) so he can take himself away from situations, or run around and let off steam? Good luck for next week.

Hi my little manis starting special school next week after two years I ms. He had been gorgeous all holiday but the last few days things are deteriorating. He is loud, hype, refusing to do things, just hard work really. I am praying that he is happier in his new school and his anxiety will come back down.

Same here. We've had a lovely holiday but this last week his anxiety has upped and his behaviour is deteriorating.

It's made worse by the fact he's not in a class with any of his friends so new teacher, new classroom, new kids bar a few he knows but isn't friendly with. I'm dreading Tues to be honest.
