Adhd meds- Implications for statement request?

Ds has dx of asd/PDA but is now being assessed for ADHD alongside this. We have appt next week and think he will be prescribed meds.
I want to get a request for statutory assessment into the system and sorted well before ehc plans next sept and i know this will be a long process.
I'm wondering though, if the lea will argue that assessment can't take place until we see what the effects of the meds are. Can I counter this, ie that he will still need a statement even if the meds are effective? But I've got no evidence for this? Just wondering what I should do.

DS is on meds for the adhd side of things, and his statement was issued before he was on anything. If it helps it has been reviewed and he still has a full wrap around statement :)

Should they come up with some sort of wait and see approach I dont see why you cant argue the point with them.

For a start it is based on educational need? and yes my DS is doing marvelous on these meds in helping him to be calm enough to learn new strategies and coping mechanisms also social awareness etc. Help to catch up, learn to read, write, spell. With or without meds he would still need support in these areas. All the meds do is help give the children a greater chance at achieving these goals but there is still a lot for them to learn :)
