Early puberty in ASD child

My 8 year old with Aspergers is showing signs of early puberty. We have spoken to the Peadiatrician on the phone who has said we need to bring him in and that he may need to take hormones or other meds to slow it down. I hate the thought of having to put him on anything really but understand it might be best. I just wondered if anyone else had been through anything similar - I haven't wanted to talk to any friends about it yet as it feels quite private for my son. It also may have nothing to do with his Aspergers but thought I should mention it.
Cheers

DS1 was 9. Took him to GP to check everything was OK and left it at that.

my mum was also 9.

DS2 with ASD - no sign at 13.

Thanks for messages, sorry about delayed reply! Peadiatrician has referred him to endicrinologist (hormone specialist?) who will need to do various blood tests, bone scans. All feels quite dramatic but I think they wouldn't do anything if they didn't think it was necessary. I just think it's a shame he has to go through this. But then full on puberty, when he already stands out from kids his own age seems unfair too. I would love to hear from somone who had been through similar stuff. ArthurPewty, apparently girls are ealier anyway - I know a few 8 year old girls who use deodrant already!
