Have you seen this

Have you ever seen anything quite so ridiculous? How many children and young people know about EHCPs? How many SENCOs do? Out governing body had never heard about it.

How misleading to ask for this from vulnerable youngsters without any objective guidance about what they are being asked to write on.

Another pot of government money?

They have blocked me from replying - again. Anyone want to retweet or reply to them?

It's one of the most bizarre ideas I've ever seen! There isn't enough information in the public realm for even the most well informed adult to ask questions, let alone children!

TOWIELA · 02/08/2013 11:35

OMG - this has to be a joke? My disabled vulnerable son won't have a single clue about what's been going on over the last year. He just knows he hasn't been to school because of his dyslexia and we are trying to find the right school for him.

CDC are so out of touch!

What about asking parents for a start?

Asking kids when there is no information to say what the bill is or even what a bill is or to explain the concept of reform or anything.

Get them to share their experiences of school and life. Not comment on Timpson's project.

Parents can do that but they are not asking us.

What a waste of public money.

Now they are saying twitter isn't a good forum for questions like this. Who for? them?

OP posts:
ouryve · 02/08/2013 11:45

Bloody hell. I'm not in a pathfinder LA, so we only have the vaguest clue what all the reforms are about, gleaned from conversations here and on Twitter. DS1 doesn't even know that there is a SEN system, now, never mind what it's going to end up being.

Maybe I should submit one of DS2's used nappies and say that it represents the entirety of his knowledge and understanding of the reforms.

Why are they on Twitter, then?Hmm

inappropriatelyemployed · 02/08/2013 11:55

To tell us what they want us to know presumably.

Summerhasloaded · 02/08/2013 12:08

I wonder which management consultant came up with this initiative Hmm, and how much were they paid!

My pathfinder was floundering so they brought in a management consultant to get it back on track.

When I realised the HT at ds's school knew nothing about the new EHC plans, I asked what they had been told. And the answer was, drum roll, nothing! Apparently schools are sent so much info it wouldn't help to tell them anything before they needed to know Shock

Asking children? Well, another poster with the nappy suggestion says it succinctly Grin

KOKOagainandagain · 02/08/2013 12:34

How about a pig wearing lipstick with the title "The Impossibility of Adequate Provision in the Mind of a LA Bureaucrat"

The lipstick wearing pig could be cut in half Hirst stylee to represent the cut in provision the reform will result in.

inappropriatelyemployed · 02/08/2013 12:49

But you are an artist Keepon, no? Grin

You've missed your vocation there mate.

KOKOagainandagain · 02/08/2013 13:04

IE - I am afraid I can bullshit but not draw (and so I am a sociologist Grin)

I don't think a critique is what they are looking for.

"The winning entry will also be used by EPIC, the Council for Disabled Children and the Department for Education to promote young people?s participation in the Special Education Needs and Disability reform plans."

During the tribunal run-up DS would ask 'do they hate children?' 'why do they want to ruin my life?' 'don't they care what I want?' but I don't think those are the sort of questions they will even acknowledge. I'd like to know how Timpson recommends that you explain to your child that they must be assessed numerous times by the LA, not to identify your needs but to put together a convincing case against you.

TOWIELA · 02/08/2013 13:10

Quite - Keep. Perhaps I he should draw a picture of the state DS was in after the final assessment he had (with the LA's EP) - it was his 11th in as many months. Perhaps he should draw speech bubbles coming out of his mouth with the his words 'I hate my life'. Perhaps I should also show that he was so distressed that I nearly crashed my car trying to calm him down whilst driving - if it wasn't for the fact I was on a motorway, I should have pulled over (yep there really is a motorway between my house the LA's named school!)

inappropriatelyemployed · 02/08/2013 13:23

Quite - ask kids what they think about being constantly tested so someone can try and undermine their provision. Or about going to the considerable effort of expressing your views only to find the Pathfinder Champion doesn't even see the need to add those views to your statement.

Making DS, at 10, stand on a leg and catch a ball is really not for his benefit. Push him to cry about it cos he knows he is so shit at it, why don't you.

Keep - love those, perhaps we should encourage our dcs to do some artwork over the holidays :-)

KOKOagainandagain · 02/08/2013 13:32

Perhaps we should - there may be no other entrants to such a ridiculous competition.

inappropriatelyemployed · 02/08/2013 13:34

Oh, I am sure there are children of Parents/carer council types who are deeply engaged in the networking process will send in their entries thanking Mr Timpson for his help.

But yes, let's get our kids to feed back!! I can imagine what ds will draw if you ask him about school, TAs, OT etc etc May be he could do a video

They'd have to be very articulate children to understand the spec. Is there more information in easy read?

KOKOagainandagain · 02/08/2013 15:09

I predict that the winner will have a visible disability and is quite likely to have severe or profound learning disabilities (and would be unable to access the advert). However caring staff will enable communication through art that will allow the child to express the insecurity of a system that ends at 16 compared to the joy of longer term provision (for those that REALLY deserve it).

Summerhasloaded · 02/08/2013 15:18

I agree the winner will probably have a visible disability, and the parents will be delighted with the support they've been readily given.

I think any entries will need to be of an equine nature from a Greek region.

Yes, indeed. The parents will also no doubt express their pride and also the warmth and support and, dare I say it, love they have had from their Pathfinder in trialing the new EHCP.

All previous barriers to good communication having been reduced by multiple breakfast meetings with croissants and co-production demonstrating the suprflous nature of legal protections to a transparent care/LA love fest.
