Hi, I am a special needs nanny and currently working with a lovely little boy. I have had a idea and wanted to get some feedback from you guys.

I am thinking about starting up a special needs nanny agency, it would provide all different levels of care for as many or as little hours as parents need. The parents wouldn't have to pay any start up or finders fee like other agencies. I would also have a physiotherapist and a special needs teacher that parents could book through me.

All nannies/babysitters would be CRB checked and have over 2 years special needs experience.

Would this be a service that's useful? Any ideas on how to make it better?

Really appreciate people taking the time out to read this and give some feedback!!

Very useful. My daughter is almost 4 and so far we have used 'regular' nannies/mother's help. Mainly because I find agency fees very high.

I am desperate to find a babysitter/nanny who would be willing to learn the way of ABA and train her

Thank you for replying.

Where abouts are you looking? Do you live in London? I am currently looking for nanny/babysitting and could email you over my cv?

I think its a great idea. We have had two brilliant nannies, but only after extensive searching to find people who 'get it'. It would be amazing to be able to find nannies who have skills and who have confidence with our children. If you could narrow down the search, immediately, to those who are comfortable or who have experience with SEN, it would be a great start. I think one of the negative aspects of looking after our children with SEN is the fear of leaving them with anyone else - particularly if they are non-verbal.

Suggestions for other people to have on your register: Makaton or other signing teacher, a good speech and language therapist, a 'yoga for the special child' practitioner.
