As us parents are aware, there are so many "professionals" that see our children only to be dictated by the LEA to downplay our children's needs. These people, when they qualify and register with the relevant bodies must as a basic rule have the clients/childs best interest first and foremost, not the LEA or the budgets of the department but the client, however this quickly falls to the wayside once they are settled in their position

So often we fight hard against the LEA and the school, but more often than not the EP, OT or SLT, has also played their part in screwing our kids over. Dont get me wrong there are some (not many) LA professionals that will write what they think is best for the child and sod what the LEA want them to write.

What these people with the moral and ethical sense of a knat fail to understand is if they get caught out the LEA that has asked you to lie will not have your back when the sh*t hits the fan.

I have reported SLT No 2 to the HPC, and EP's and SLTs DO NOT want this, well why would you? You neck is on the line and you are possibly going to be labeled incompetent for what you have trained xxx amount of years for.

I received a letter from the HPC giving me a hearing date for SLT No1 (it took 2 years to get there) and Just received a letter that the panel have found that SLT No 2 has a case to answer to as it was not an isolated one off mistake but in fact potentially caused harm to my DS.

It could well be after the hearing the panel find no wrongdoing (i will be surprised how they come to this though given the evidence they have produced and what I have produced, it should be a clear cut case) but hopefully it will make people think twice before denying innocent children provision they need to reach their potential and excel in life...you know all the opportunities they had to be able to become EP's, Slt's etc..but do not want our children to have.

I should not have had to go down this route but unless us parents stand up to these people and make it clear that we know that they are doing and it goes totally against the code and ethics and more disturbing do not have the best interest of the client you are treating this will simply continue and wishy washy assessments/reports will continue to fly around and do more harm than good to our children.

I now realise for a while I've been in denial that (not just) your awful experience can happen to any parent, that there must be something else to it.

I'm sorry you've had to do this, and thank you for sharing what's happening. It's helping me find the strength, knowledge and inspiration to challenge in a similar way

Well done to you Thanks

Phew, I am glad there are some ok ones. Our OT was great and went out if her way to get us an early report for our LA appeal and stressed his numerous and complex difficulties and that he needed one on one support. Glad you kicked them up the arse x
