DS is 6, being assessed for ASD, has diagnosis of Dyspraxia, Severe ADHD, ODD, conduct disorder, hyper mobility syndrome. He had a paed appt a few weeks ago, where it was suggested we have a carer's assessment to get some direct payments to fund some respite in our home (we have no family close by).

My husband consented to this and today a social worker called us - we'd been referred by the Doctor. I wasn't aware a social worker deals with the carer's assessment and it's really un-nerved me - no reason why really, I have nothing to hide! Just think it's the shock of it (I was at work for this appt).

Has anyone else had a carers assessment? They're coming out to see us next week.

Yes and it was fine. It was a social worker from the disabled childrens team and they have been lovely. I know its odd to feel like you need a social worker but our experience has been positive.

Yes, it was ok but also felt very judged about my home and parenting. It was worth it to get direct payments.
