Hi all

A bit of background my 5 yr old DS is in reception and was diagnosed before starting with aspergers. Now I try to keep in touch with senco and make sure that things are going well. He is a lovely boy at school and never out, so I have been told. Senco keeps tellin me he is fine and clever and not to worry etc etc

My problem is that today I met with senco to fill in a CAF form and she asked his class teacher to come and give some information. Class teacher said he is behind his peers in literacy and maths. This concerned me as I hadn't been told this before.

Now the paediatrican who diagnosed him said in his letter to the senco that he advises an ed psych see him. This has not happened as apparently there is nothing wrong. He so obviously needs extra help in class but senco is saying he is fine...

Can anyone give me some advice on what to do. Please!

Thanks

Ask the school senco why she has not referred your son to the ed psych as recommended by the Paediatrician, also ask what his EYFS are, they should actually have been in his end of year report, Google national curriculum levels you should get some idea of how to interpret these scores.
Ask for him to be referred to ed psych for standardized assessments to be carried out.
If you don't get anywhere with this I'll have a re-think.

I don't really know enough about EYFS off the top of my head so I would have to look into it more, but I hope what I have suggested will be of some help

Oh and follow up any conversations (face to face or over the phone) with an email as you may need it as evidence at a later date.

Spoke with the senco to try and organise a meetin tomorrow but she is busy so am meetin with the head teacher. Basically I said to the senco that I was u happy with his report (no scores, just says achieved or emerging towards, 90%of his are emerging towards) the EYFS goal. She said to me that he is perfectly fine and she was happy with his report. I said to her that I am not happy with his progress and need to speak with someone to think about an educational psychologist or getting and Iep in place. She seemed quite shocked at this and almost seemed put out.

I hope I'm not being an overbearing mother hen but it's bothering me! I am so nervous for this meeting tomorrow!!!!
