Does anyone know about sensory processing disorder and what it is when it relates to prioperception and needing deep touch? My (8 yr old) daughter is pretty normal in many ways but has been having problems sleeping for a few years - waking 3am until 5am most nights.

I recently borrowed a weighted blanket and she has slept through almost every night!

I'd like to get her assessed in case this relates to some other (we think mainly emotional) issues she has going on - but need to point camhs in the right direction as they don't seem to think if it as as important as the emotional stuff she's dealing with. What kind of assessment might be appropriate? She also has problems with handwriting (but not light pressure fine motor stuff like needle threading, hama beads, painting) and with pace of her work in class, gets distracted very easily - by noise I think.

You need a referral to an occupational therapist who specialises in sensory processing. Try local paediatric team or there are private ones like www.maximumpotential.org.uk/
