Beautifully written. But can't believe he liked the Holland poem :)

Amazing article

theDudesmummy · 29/06/2013 15:52

Yes I thought it was good too, but the Holland bit was a bit jarring, it seems as if he didn't know about it and the fact that it often gets shoved at us and lots of people don't like it...

So insightful.

Eyesunderarock · 29/06/2013 16:08

Well, I've got friends who love the Holland poem and find it helpful.
Mind you, they also like that soppy rubbish about doggies and rainbow bridges. Grin

Really enjoyed this Thanks
The "Holland" thing doesn't put my back up so much now, but makes me roll my eyes. I do think it provides a softly softly approach for NT's to have some insight into ASD - without overwhelming them. Obviously once they've seen Holland then they should be swiftly moved on to "Welcome to Beirut"Grin

Apart from the Holland bit (I agree with you on this Frizzcat), I nodded along wryly to every single line. Let out a snort at the line about LAs believing that autism magically vanishes at school holidays.

penny100 · 29/06/2013 19:38

Love the 'welcome to Beirut' comment!

theDudesmummy · 29/06/2013 19:55

I immediately thought about writing to Mitchell with link to WT Beirut! I still may!

Actually reading that back I should say disability - Holland & Beruit aren't disability specific (I don't think?)

But much looking forward to seeing Beirut used more often Wink

ouryve · 29/06/2013 20:36

It's a refreshingly honest article, written without hysteria.

I think he'd love welcome to Beirut!

(And i was confused when I read that it was David Mitchell, until I realised that it was the other David Mitchell!)

frizzcat · 29/06/2013 20:48

Me too Ouryve

I really liked it he made clear the amount of things that people take for granted that are hard for us and our children
