Thursday preview: STATEMENT THE CHILD, RUIN THE ADULT?
Do you think that statementing a child with special educational needs could actually have a negative effect on their future? Statements means schools know what resources - equipment, money, teachers - they need to give a child a proper education. But is there a danger that once you have such a statement, you?ll be labeled and defined by your needs for the rest of your life?

Angry

I know The Wright Stuff regularly trawls MN for stories, but it looks like the researchers have been coming onto MNSN!

What utter rot!

Without a statement my sibling would never have made it to Uni, to be able to live an independent life, or to have the skills to run her own business. Without a statement she'd have been a drain on the welfare state for the 50+ years of her adult life, instead of a net contributor.

ALL a statement does is gives the child the resources needed to access the National Curriculum, thus ensuring they get the same opportunity to obtain an education that NT & able bodied kids take for granted. A statement ceases when a child leaves school.

Sounds to me like more of the usual dressed up in a more clever way for those who might otherwise think that this administration's treatment of societies most vulnerable has been morally repugnant.

If the Wright Stuff researchers have been trawling MNSN, then they haven't done a very good job because The Real News is the illegal way LAs and the NHS treat the most vulnerable people of our society: children with additional needs.

I couldn't agree with you more, TOWIELA.

How odd -I went on 5-Od to watch this, and it looks like this segment was pulled Hmm.

Might have something to do with the balance of opinion Grin before the show was aired!
