3Di hyperkinetic questions in relation to ASD

The big questionnaire finally arrived and DH and I spent a few hours filling it out together at home.
To our surprise DS1(9) ticked most of the boxes on the hyperkinetic section (not impulsive, though). I assume that bit was to pick out ADHD traits.

We are confused now. We think he has AS/HFA, and assumed his fidgeting and inattention were sensory rather than something else in themselves. Is that possible? Could HFA look like ADHD, or has he got that too?

I think we will have the final appt in Sept, so I really must stop second-guessing what it will say Lol!

This sounds not dissimilar to my DS. He has autism and I suspected ADHD as well for a long time. His special school said it was sensory due to the autism but when he was finally seen by a psychiatrist after SS's denial had basically obstructed a diagnosis, he was diagnosed with severe ADHD. Not that I am saying this is the case with your DS but the psychiatrist did say that ADHD is very often not picked up on when child already has autism DX. So it is definitely worth looking into.

DS1's initial diagnosis, age 3 was autism with associated hyperactivity. We went back to CAMHS, when he was 6 and really struggling and he now has a dual diagnosis of ADHD and ASD.
