Earlier in the year my GP referred my DS to the local peadeatrician, who then refered DS on to camhs due to his age.
There was a bit of an issue with the initial gatekeeper that would do the initial evidence gathering I'm that she appeared to be saying some very bizarre things and putr off, however after explaining it to others they advised I should still go ahead. So after some time of trying to decide I said fine. Gatekeeper said she was leaving so would need to give his file to colleague.
A few days later I receive a letter stating they are closing DS file as I took too long to decide?!? I call PALS and they straighten things out and the consultant at camhs calls to offer an appointment in August.
Now from what the initial gatekeeper told me, she obtains info from the school, SLT, and whatever reports/assessments DS has and looks at everything then would have refered him to consultant if need be, but the consultant would naturally have access to all the info also. Now the consultant that called me offered me the appointment and other than asking me to fill in a form on the day and obtaining school views that is as far as she appears to be going.
Now this presents a huge problem as most of you are aware that the school are refusing to accept the established diagnosed problems and have openly said in correspondence they will not support my DS even though he has provision specified in his statement, which is now resulting in a DDA claim against the school. The consultant also waffles on about they usually recieve referrals from schools as they are best placed to know?!? ( so as his mother my views and concerns stand for nowt eh?) but that only works if the school has a bloomin clue about these things in the first place, she also says that dispite the difficulties with school, the school should have DS best interest...well an open admission from the SENCO saying she won't support my DS and his provision along with continuing to failing to implement is not someone that has my DS best interest.
Last year DS was seen by her colleague regarding some issues with him saying distressing things as he was stressing at school, the consultant said he wasn't depressed which is fair enough, however this current consultant says " we'll my colleague didn't mention anything about autism and that's also her area of expertise" so i said but that isn't what we went in for, she says " but she would have picked up on it"
Now, I have just received an appointment from daphne keen in October. From the tone of this consultant and her questions what she appears to want to do is assess him and quickly say nothing is wrong as the main one I get from this camhs is " why do I want the label and what will you do if you don't get the diagnoses" she kept going on about do you only want a definitive yes or no, so naturally I say at this stage I need to know either way what is going on as something isn't right, that much I know.
It's all very shifty and shady, but what I need is some advice on how to juggle this..do I go to camhs and also daphne, can I even do that? Or do I just go to daphne?
Many thanks.
