Finally realising just how much more I do for DS

Over the past few days, the differences between Dd 4 and Ds 8 have just been slapping me in the face, left right and centre!

Ds leaves school slightly agitated. bright red face. Sweat pouring off his nose and forehead. Hair soaking wet.

Cue usual conversation following a warm day at school....

Me: Ds lets take your jumper off.
Ds: Oh, I didn't think of that, I am sweating.
Me: when your body is sweating, its means you are too hot. next time take off your jumper.
Ds: OK, but I didn't see anybody else take there's off Confused (nobody else had jumpers on, I have to send Ds with a jumper because he feels the cold when nobody else does!!)
Me: (reaching into his school bag, finding a full bottle of juice which is sent with his sandwiches) Ds have you been drinking water today?
Ds:No I don't like the taste of water, I keep telling you!
Me: why didn't you have a drink of your juice? (showing him the full bottle)
Ds:I forgot, can I have a drink? I haven't had a drink all day!
(followed by drinking the entire bottle of juice).

Walk home with Ds in a much better mood. I should imagine he spent the majority of the day very uncomfortable, I can also imagine how that could of affected many things during the day.

Minutes before when I collected Dd....

she came running out looking as fresh as a daisy!
Me:(checking bag) Dd have you remembered to bring your cardigan home?
Dd: yes its in my bag...I got hot so I took it off. Can I have my juice? I'm thirsty (gets her almost empty bottle out of her bag)....

Sad

What can the school do to help. Aren't they loco parentis?

failing that Could you get him a motivader? (small buzzing timer attatched to clothes) every time it goes off he has to take a sip. You could practise at home first.

Does he have any support at all? It seems a bit off that he goes all day without any adult even noticing that he's still in his jumper and looks hot :(

Hi thanks for the replies, I think it depends which CT he has TBH or if he sees or hears someone mention that they are hot and the CT suggests that the other pupil takes his/her jumper off.

I had a confusing conversation with him a while back and he had come out just the same hot, sweating (when the weather had first started to get warmer) on this particular day he had been sent into the quiet room because he was becoming distracted, he said he wasn't distracted he 'felt funny', going on to say while he was in the quiet room he was trying to move into the shade away from the radiator Confused. Straight away I thought he meant the sun was shining through the window and he was getting too hot or it was too bright so I suggested that next time he asks his CT politely to close the blinds he said they were already closed and repeated that he couldn't get into the shade from the radiator, so he was sat next to a radiator which was on??. He said his CT just kept coming into the quiet room telling him to finish his work, and stop fidgeting. His words were she just kept saying "do it! do it! do it! every time he said anything. Hmm Surely if it was that she could see he was hot she would of done something then? Saying that everything my Ds does or says is always seen as a way of avoiding his work so there is little acknowledgment of what he says.

starlight I saw a thread on here some weeks back about a watch that can be programmed to vibrate with reminders which we are saving up for (Ds likes the idea of having me on his wrist to remind him Grin). I will have a look at the motivader thanks :)
