ASD & Dyslexia - Advice Needed

Hi

My DS (13) has a dx of ASD but it has been suggested he may also have dyslexia. I have done a bit of research and can see a fair amount of overlapping charectoristics of both conditions.

The school is going to be bringing in a special needs team worker to do some assessments on him as he is not making as much progress as he should and I'm assuming they will look for dyslexic traits but I'm wondering whether I should get a private assessment done?

I know its pricey and school have said they dont think it will make much difference to him and the support he will get but I beg to differ.

Has anyone got experience of this and going down the private dx?

Why don't you wait until the bod has been. I think it would be handy to know but the school could be right that it might not make a lot of difference to the amount of provision he gets if his literacy difficulties are already catered for in that provision. If, however, he doesn't get literacy support then yes a diagnoses might kick start things.
