Ds is 3. He has cp and he would I believe get a statement for school because his medical needs mean he could not access the curriculum without support.

He gets 1 - 1 for 25 hours in nursery.

Our county currently does "medical hours" no-one can tell me how this will change for next year. He is a classic child who needs medical hours. As far as I can tell the changes to the law actually shouldn't affect things for ds but my county uses weird labels to apply the current laws and can't seem to accept they are the odd ones.

We have a paed who supports us, 3 physios and 2 ots. But they say get early support to start the process because its medical.

Fine if they actually ever told us how. In our case it's early leave you alone. We've never had portage etc.

I have spoken to parent partnership. Also clueless. Send we links that don't work. Then say get back in touch. Fine but I want a statement. I told them that. So who do I get in touch with.

Slight complication is I want my medical hours for a private school. We will pay the fees, but not for the extra. Again my county have always been happy with this in the past. (And I think it is actually less favourable treatment not to have the same school choice because of a disability and where it is cost neutral which for 25 hours it would be, can't see that there is any lawful reason to refuse... But I digress). My paed supports that decision. As do the physios.

So how on earth do I now move forward. and who on earth does what next. I don't know who to ask, so I thought I would ask you lot!

The statement bit is easy. You simply write to the Chief SEN Officer for your LA, requesting a Statutory Assessment. www.ipsea.org.uk have a template letter you can use.

It should be quite straightforward if you already get 25 hrs 1:1 at Early Years level.

As for the funding being put into a private school...not sure. I suspect you'd need to discuss that with your DS's case officer.

Give IPSEA a call to discuss the case - may take a bit of getting hold of them but usually very helpful.
