Hello everyone, im new to this site, my names Sarah, i have 3 children two boys aged 3 and 21 months and a baby girl aged 5 weeks ,my oldest has autism.

I have 2 boys with autism (aged 3yrs and almost 6yrs) and a 2mth-old dd.

Thankyou , i worry that my 21 month old might be the same but i knew that there was something different about ds1 from a early age. ds2 does do a lot of the same things as ds1 but i think his development has been affected by his condition , he has recently been diagnosed with celiac disiese.

I am very busy ,it is really hard work. DS1 has been doing well , he has started saying a few words, i am worried about him, he had afit recently and it was really scary he has to have an eeg on the 6th of june how am i going to get him to sit still!.

Hi Pinkbaby. I have a DS who is nearly 11 and has severe ASD and is non-verbal...... but very affectionate, communicative, interactive etc. LOTS of behaviours though. I also have an NT DD who is just over 3.
When DS had an EEG I phoned first to see how they would sedate him and they were all bright and breezy, "we'll give him something orally, its OK, we know what we're doing, we've done it lots of times blah blah blah". I said that he wouldn't normally take anything orally and was all excited to see how the professionals manage it..... we had to come home with no EEG
Next time they jabbed him in the bum by holding him down (he was prob only about 4-5 then). He didn't go to sleep so they jabbed him again and he slept for a grand total of 12 minutes! We gave up.......
I would phone and ask them how they're planning to do it and what to expect.

Hi Davros, I spoke to hospital and they said they really dont like to sedate, but they said i could bring a dvd in for him , but i know he wont like the bit when they put the pads on his head that is when he will freak out. Just have to go and see what happens they said they dont mind if he screams they r used to it.! how does your DS communicate do u use pecs with him? Does he go to mainstream or special school? my DS1 is affectionate and he gives eye contact now. just trying to potty train him, very difficult.!

Pinkbaby3 just read about the eeg. Had nightmare with dd even though they gave her a drink which was supposed to sedate her and make her go to sleep she didn't just went a bit dopey. the only was I could keep her calm was to sit her on my lap and cuddle her this worked for about 20 mins.
have you got to get up really early??

I don't think it matters if "they" don't like to sedate, its a case of what will work and will be less stressful for your DS and you. If you can manage him without then that's fine, but maybe they need to consider a plan B before the appt?
We use PECs and Makaton with my DS and he's good with both, plus the usual pointing and grabbing! He goes to a special school.

The appointment is early at 8.30 i think. DD1 can use some makaton, i havent always had time to use pecs consistantly i feel really guilty, both my boys have been screaming for the past hour cus my partner has been drilling outside, nightmare. DD1 is going to a specialist nursery in september full time, i have just had his final statement through. does anyone have any sleep tips cus DD1 scrams alot at night, have tried a few things but not worked, doc refused to give him that melatonin stuff.

Hi pinkbaby3, welcome. I am new too but have been here for a few weeks & found it really useful..but addictive.
I have 2 boys the youngest has mild cp, development delay, low muscle tone & just waiting for an assessment because of displaying autistic behaviours.
