Ok, am beginning to panic as we are planning to move to North Yorkshire to be closer to family in the summer and I have just read another vague comment on another thread that provision in North Yorkshire is really bad. Does anyone have personal experience of ASD provision there (both my sons are diagnosed with Aspergers) or is it all rumour? We will not be moving until we have finalised statements from our existing LA which should help and provision where we are at the moment is not great either. We have delayed contacting North Yorkshire LA so far as our house sale keeps falling through but hopefully third time lucky and we had diagnosis (last month) and statements (finalised version should be maximum eight weeks now). Please reassure me!

I cant really help specifically but on the ofsted website you can do a search for schools by postcode upto a 20 mile radius. It lists the schools by distance and then if you click on the schools you can read the reports. You can narrow your search by type of school including special schools.

I know ofsted are not the be all and end all but at least it would give you a clue as there will be info about how the school meets the needs of children with SN's.

I hope someone comes along who can be more helpful.

Good luck Smile

The vague comment was probably mine. There was a thread about North Yorkshire, last year, and what became clear is that some parents have a fight for any statement at all, even with a clear need, but some areas of the county are a little better, since it's quite a large county. I'll see if i can track down the thread.

I think this is the thread I was thinking about

More here, from around the same time

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

Thank you for the information ourvye. Looks like we're going to have to do a battle but at least we are forewarned now.

Another one in North Yorks, with a son with Aspergers - feel free to pm me too!

Is there any other LA that is close if you need to find an alternative?

OneInEight · 12/06/2013 10:57

That is a good idea Starlight. We might be able to access City of York or Leeds instead. We were slightly reassured by social worker yesterday who said North Yorkshire has better provision than some authorities he has experience of - it is all relative - but good to have input from someone who has worked in several different areas.
