How to tell about new school??

My Starling (7.5) is going to start a new special school in September ...he has no idea about it just yet but next week, we are taking him to the school to visit and to sign the paperwork etc.

He will be picked up etc (its about 15 miles away) which he will love I know but I also know he will miss his old school terribly and Im concerned about how he will be at his school during the last half term he is there.

Any suggestions on how to tell him? (He has ADHD and ASD and gets quite anxious about things, bit of a worrier etc) ... should we tell him now, let him get used to the idea before we go see the school or should we tell him that morning???

PS- he is currently in a mainstream school.

Have you been to visit the new school? I would start with telling your ds about the school, having a look at the school web site with him too? Will the ms school help with the transition?

Yeah we've been (hubby and I went together). We can tell him a lot about it and we can show him the website etc .... its more about how we actually tell him and what he says if he asks why we are sending him there etc.
