My 13 yr old daughter started secondary school 2011 aged 11, youngest in the school. After six days she was given a detention at lunchtime for forgetting a piece of science homework. She was so distressed (separated from her friends) and scared to be late for lunch she took herself to the library crying. She told me that she had detention and had missed lunch. After I complained about her treatment so early in the school term - they pulled cctv footage showing that she had time for lunch - then in their infinite wisdom called her out of class and told her that she was to get a severe punishment from the head teacher which had not been decided yet and she would find out what it was after the weekend - but it would be severe and that lying would not be tolerated.
After this she would not go to school she was hysterical. After several weeks and a meeting with the head of year she was placed in inclusion to try to get her settled again. This did not work and a relate councillor was assigned to her - during this time she became suicidal and was referred to Cahms. After school refusing and limited attendance with one to one support she was referred by Cahms for assessment as they felt she may have Autism.
Despite every effort the mainstream school put in place, and Cahms saying that she should no longer attend due to her mental health, she stopped going. However she was referred to a behaviour panel by the mainstream and offered a place at a medical facility school. She started there in September. In October she was finally diagnosed with ASD (she is high functioning)
This placement turned out to be most unsuitable as there were kids there with drug problems/pregnant violence etc and she is very nervous and anxious all the time and was scared of her peers.
I was advised to try for a statement to get her a better provision. This began 8 weeks ago. As she is not able to access this "medical facility( which is usually only used for temporary placements) I was advised by the Senco team to find somewhere I thought was suitable for a temporary placement! Im told this is unheard of - anyone else had any experience of this
sorry for the long post!!!!!
