Question thrown out of the blue first thing this by DS.
Yes DS you do have autism I reply.
Thats cool said DS I thought I did because I have learnt a bit about it and it means I am smart at a lot of things doesnt it.
I paused and asked how he felt.
Its a good thing mum dont worry its really a good thing. Does my sister have autism too?
I reply she is quite a lot like you DS but doesnt have a dx of autism like you.
DS says oh she has mum because she is smart too! :)
DH walks downstairs obviously heard the conversation from above.
Dad I have autism and its ok you know. (I am on verge of choking tears by then)
DH says yes its ok mate.
DS says there is no one else in my class with autism Dad. DH says oh I suspect there is if you look hard enough DS and he mentioned his friend (valid dx) oh yes he said but I am different not the same.
DH explains how there is no one person with autism that is identical and everyone is different.
DS says oh I know I have a lot of autisms Dad. I did agree with him he was complex.
YES said DS I have autisms in maths, english, writing and drawing and in computers because this school has helped me and I am now smart. :)
Cant help thinking that life would be so much easier if everyone could look at autism in such a innocent positive way :)
