As a regular poster, for many years, I was letting people who might be interested know that I was working on a research proposal which might be of interest to them.

I made it clear we didn't have funding, I wasn't asking for recruits, I was simply flagging this up and testing the water.

Thanks alot.

No - I posted again to make myself clearer. The previous thread was just removed. No attention to what I was saying and no questions asked.

Just a request for £30

Shock and Angry for you.

You're one of the posters I respect the most and I am surprised anyone found it necessary to report you.

Ineedmorepatience · 15/04/2013 14:07

There was another post deleted the other day that I thought wasnt really advertising.

I wonder if there is someone who doesnt really understand why we are on MNSN who is taking offence to some posts IE

Hope it doesnt get deleted againHmm

willowthecat · 15/04/2013 14:07

Could it have been automatically detected by a keyword - ie not actually reported by a human agent ?

Inappropriatelyemployed · 15/04/2013 14:09

No, it was reported by several posters apparently!

Very Odd!

TheNebulousBoojum · 15/04/2013 14:18

That's odd, I wonder why someone thought it was not acceptable?
Thete have been some strange things happening on MN over the last couple of months. Confused

Hello. And many apols about this.

Looks like inappropriatelyemployed's first thread was deleted in error.

It did contain the phrase, "Would some people here be willing to get involved to answer questionnaires", which was taken out of context and seen as a direct recruitment drive for volunteers - which should, rightly, sit in our Non-member/media requests section.

We can now see that this was not inappropriatelyemployed's intention.

We'll, of course, leave her other thread up.

But please don't blame those who reported her thread. We do ask folks to report anything they think might be spam/cheeky market-research - even if they're not sure if it really is.

We don't delete just because someone reports but look instead at what's been reported and take a view. We took the wrong view here, clearly, and the fault was completely ours at HQ.

UnChartered · 15/04/2013 14:25

i'm angry for you too - MNHQ may have got this wrong, and i'm sure they'll have had this thread reported too then

PM me with anything you think i can do to support your proposal?

can we lobby anyone to fund it for you?

UnChartered · 15/04/2013 14:26

x-post with Helen there

of course we have to blame those who reported it Confused

No, we deleted it - wrongly.

And it's up to us to decide what's spam and what's not.

We're grateful to everyone who reports - even if they've reported in error - because reports help us keep the site running smoothly.

UnChartered · 15/04/2013 14:33

ok, i'll go with that for now

but it still means 'several' people got it wrong

i'll hide this thread now, am in a fighty mood so it's prob best i shut up Wink

TheNebulousBoojum · 15/04/2013 14:35

A good explanation and apology.
Wine all round then, it sounds like an interesting project.

Grin at fighty mood.

Tbh, I think 'several' people got it wrong because they misread, "Would some people here be willing to get involved to answer questionnaires when I have funding" as active recruitment of volunteers.

Easily done. But we should have known better at HQ.

Inappropriatelyemployed · 15/04/2013 14:37

Let's move on but it is disappointing if other 'posters' did really report this and MNHQ suggested there were more than one. Unless MNHQ pick these things up themselves as they are really desperate for £30? Hmm

Ha! Handy as £30 would come in, inappropriatelyemployed, we don't have time - and it's not our policy - to actively moderate the boards.

We respond to reports instead.
