Having a bit of a pity fest!

The boiler broke at 6 am, typical that it would be on one of the only days nothing is open! What's even more frustrating is it's relatively new.

Anyway, we called the gas company's emergency callout service & told them DD was severely disabled and has serious respiratory problems if she gets too cold, they said no problem they'll put us as high priority and someone would be here on Tuesday afternoon!!

Pointed out that I don't think they understood, DD is unable to regulate her own temperature and could be hospitalised if she gets too cold, but they said there was nothing available but would put us on standby & try and get someone to us ASAP. (so glad we pay all that money to EON for their emergency repair service! )

It's got so cold that DH had to take DD to stay with ILs, 100 miles away - so I'm here all by myself waiting for a call out service that may or may not decide to show up before Tuesday.

There's not even anything on telly to distract me.

oh - this sounds really crap. really shocked by the long waiting times to get someonw to fix it . sorry, no practical advice.

you have my sympathy, my boiler died on tuesday. Ask around, someone will lend you some heaters, we're at least keeping the sitting room plenty warm enough thanks to a friend of dh. It has to happen over the coldest easter ever doesn't it?!

Just a thought - I too had boiler issues. I called and was offered an appointment in two weeks. They asked if there were any disabled or elderly people household, and when I said two, I was offered an appointment in three days. They then asked if they could help with anything else, and I truthfully said the boiler had been making a very funny noise for days.

I was instantly offered an appointment the next day!

So it looks like there's a tier of urgency:

1. Low priority
2. High priority if there are disabled/elderly
3. Urgent if the boiler is dangerous

May be worth calling them back

We mentioned the boiler was making a strange noise when we called initially, which is why we turned it off - problem is it now won't restart.

The other thing to try is your house insurance.
Sometimes cover includes emergency call out and it might be more urgent than EONs lacklustre attempt.
