A friend said as im on a low income and have a child who recieves higher rate care I may qualify for housing benefit is this right? Dp earns 19000 if it helps I did a online calculator and it said I was entitled.

No, you don't get any housing benefit for mortgages.

You can, I believe, if you are unemployed for I think it is over 3 months, apply for help with the interest part of the mortgage payment, but not any repayment of capital.
