SAs and placement - what if no school is right but HE isn't either

Rubbish title and I'm not sure how to phrase this. Ds is 10 (AS, SPD, dyspraxia) and I need to name a placement for his statement.

His current MS has said they can't meet all his needs. I've visited a number of specialist schools and all bar one have said they can't meet his academic needs; the one that can is just over an hour away and I'm not impressed with how they're coming across eg promised info doesn't come, does not respond to phone calls, letters, etc.

DS is currently attending PT only away from his classroom, with a 1-1, and not doing any academic work. He is however interacting with staff and playing with other children.

An idea is forming in my head which is something like this:

  • Stay in current MS part-time for socialisation and exams
  • Internet school plus home tutor
  • Change placement to independent specialist school at Y7

Has anyone negotiated something similar, and did it work?

Hope this makes sense Blush

Mainstream with bolt on support?

If you're sure tribunal would agree the LA suggestions are unsuitable, and definitely want a 'yes' to the near-enough compromise, cost it up, chat to LA about it informally, and then put an (expensive) independent residential that meets the overall needs perfectly in your proposal for part 4.

Thanks Great minds think alike Grin, Mareeya.

Also liking the ms with support tag, Star.

If anyone has any experience of a simiarish bespoke package, I would love to hear from them Smile

We had this problem at transition stage.Current ms school couldn't meet needs and the local secondary ms's definitely couldn't. There was talk of a 'bespoke package' being created but the existing school wanted him out quickly (excluded shortly after saying they couldn't meet needs) so there was no time for the LA to implement anything and nowhere for ds to go. We named a very expensive out of county specialist placement and as LA knew they had nothing suitable to offer agreed straight away. It remains to be seen whether this will be suitable either though Sad.
