Can we talk about MNSN, and the community/support/chat etc?

This thread may not be a good idea. I am severely sleep deprived (ds has decided yet again that sleep is for the weak, and I have had about 4 hours sleep since Sunday), and had the morning from hell getting dd2 off on a school trip - change of routine, needed ot wear tracksuit not uniform, different drop off/pick up - you all know the score. If you all think it is a bad idea, please feel free to report and have it deleted.

Anyway.

Can we have a thread where we try to sort out some of the perceived isues with MNSN?

I keep seeing, on the main boards, posts saying that MNSN is not suportive. That some faces don't fit. That it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Fine. I get that not everybody is the same, and may not want the same things form this board as me, or other posters. But it isn't really said here, and so we don't reallt get right of reply.

It's a bit like talking about us behind our backs.

I know there have ben disagreements and differences over the years. I have been part of some of them, but on the whole I thought we muddled through quite well - expcially given that we are all under a reasonable amount of stress most of the time, and that we all face fairly different challenges on a daily basis.

So - what do people want form MNSN? Is there anything we (as a community) can do to welcome people who feel left out? Anythign we can do to help posters who lurk rather than post?

I am rather hoping htis might be a moving forward discussion, rather than a re-hash of any he said/she said grievances. BUt as I said earlier, maybe this is entirely misguided. Sorry if it is.

Trying to come out of my shell of only posting when I think I can say something positive Blush

No no no no

I draw the line at chickpeas in cakes.

I am going to get that deleted, for being all kinds of wrong.

Lougle - I only ask about the allergy thing, because I remember her symptoms being similar to dd1, who has recently gone wheat free under paed's advice (despite testing negative for coeliacs). It has made a huge difference to her, so I wondered if there was something similar going on.

dietstarts

banana bread as follows: (I use this recipe, but make it gf/cf - same quantities, except I don't put raisins in - always forget! I use water instead of milk, and have put 2 eggs in with no ill effect. oh, and I use normal flour, not wholemeal as generally don't have gf wholemeal flour)

125g self-raising wholemeal flour
½ tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground cinnamon
75g sultanas
50g butter , melted
2 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
3 ripe bananas , mashed

mix up dry ingredients in one bowl, and wet in another. then mix them together, and bake for 30-40 minutes at gas mark 4.

it is really nice, and no one can ever believe it is actually healthy (although of course I am presenting a gf/cf version - notorious for tasting a bit manky, and this one doesn't!)

Well zzzzz if it does then there will be no hiding how many chunks slices you would have had would there Grin

StarlightMcKenzie · 07/03/2013 21:15

I want a recipe for a microwave cake that ds can do himself.

silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:17

Blush I think the chickpea chocolate cake sounds interesting.

but then I am the cruel wicked mother who feeds her children courgette cake Grin

seriously, though, dd1 reacts badly to too much sugar. and cannot take anything containing nuts, or even 'may contain traces' into school. add in gf/cf, and just about every single shop bought snack is out. so i have to make my own. which means cake, and she can't eat cake everyday - hence the interest in 'healthy' cakes

What is banana bread anyway? And do you have to butter it?

aren't flapjacks alright?

silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:19

it's cake by another name Grin

no butter necessary (slows up the eating). is nice drizzled with honey, though. or coconut oil used as butter. or coconut milk used as cream.

or just on its own.

OP posts:
silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:19

is that to me, Starlight (re: flapjacks)?

not gf, sadly.

Wow, that's so cool Maryz. DS is currently experimenting with things from the kitchen. Currently ribena and milk.

bialystockandbloom · 07/03/2013 21:21

Star microwave - pah. Just cut out the middle man and get a box of Mr Kipling's finest.

The banana bread sounds rather yummy though if I could be arsed to make it

silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:21

I've often wondered about making the cake-in-a-mug gf, Maryz. I can't quite bring myself to do it - it woul be a hideous disappointment to have slaved for ooooh 2 minutes over a hot microwave to be faced with inedible gloop.

coff33pot · 07/03/2013 21:21

star
6 oz sr flour
6 oz butter
6 0z sugar
3 medium eggs
1 glass soufle dish greaseproof the bottom and butter sides and coat with sugar

stick EVERYTHING in one bowl and mix it up

put in micro 9 mins max

microwave gatteaux mix I have used a lot

silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:22

takes 10 minutes, bialy. seriously. it's a rough and ready mixed type of cake bread.

even with the dds helping, it only takes 15 minutes to get it in the oven.

silver don't mean to sound flippant, I realise being GF takes effort [sorry]

bialystockandbloom · 07/03/2013 21:24

x-posts!

bialystockandbloom · 07/03/2013 21:24

I am just seriously fucking lazy!

silverfrog · 07/03/2013 21:25

god, no, bialy - not offended at all!

was just tempting you to make cake Grin

the effort in gf is al in finding recipes that are worth trying, tbh. making a cake is making a cake.

and until dd1's school's recent nut ban, I didn't have to make as many of the damn things!
