Can we talk about MNSN, and the community/support/chat etc?

This thread may not be a good idea. I am severely sleep deprived (ds has decided yet again that sleep is for the weak, and I have had about 4 hours sleep since Sunday), and had the morning from hell getting dd2 off on a school trip - change of routine, needed ot wear tracksuit not uniform, different drop off/pick up - you all know the score. If you all think it is a bad idea, please feel free to report and have it deleted.

Anyway.

Can we have a thread where we try to sort out some of the perceived isues with MNSN?

I keep seeing, on the main boards, posts saying that MNSN is not suportive. That some faces don't fit. That it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Fine. I get that not everybody is the same, and may not want the same things form this board as me, or other posters. But it isn't really said here, and so we don't reallt get right of reply.

It's a bit like talking about us behind our backs.

I know there have ben disagreements and differences over the years. I have been part of some of them, but on the whole I thought we muddled through quite well - expcially given that we are all under a reasonable amount of stress most of the time, and that we all face fairly different challenges on a daily basis.

So - what do people want form MNSN? Is there anything we (as a community) can do to welcome people who feel left out? Anythign we can do to help posters who lurk rather than post?

I am rather hoping htis might be a moving forward discussion, rather than a re-hash of any he said/she said grievances. BUt as I said earlier, maybe this is entirely misguided. Sorry if it is.

zzzzz - DH is just like that! I say 'you've just had rice crispies, now you're having toast...what's that about?' He says 'Rice cripsies, pah! They're just puffs of air...' Well yes, but you took the time to eat them, with the full-fat milk they bathed in, so you can't pretend they weren't there!

Bank account number, PIN number and memorable security questions, please? Grin

Going back to an earlier chat, shouting is a nice self-medication technique for anyone with ADHD traits. An adrenaline rush works like methylphenidate.

You're supposed to fecking MINDREAD what support need.

If you did, you'd realise that I need practical hit-man support!!!!!

Hmm I never understand things like slimline tonic - surely the booze is the bigger vice? It's like when people order a great big pizza at Pizza Express but then a diet coke. Grin

Anyway. Star sorry m'lady that I didn't post on your thread. Tbh I wasn't sure what I could say, my advice often tends to be down the angry route, and you asked for tips on how to be nice! But nice to see you here - come and swear and drink and let off steam.

Lougle I don't have experience of this, but I do have a friend whose dd (no disabilities afatk) has been malnourished and teeny since before she was born. They've spent years seeing drs, nutritionists, HVs etc etc etc and now just give her anything that they'll know she eats, just so she gets something - even if it means a month of not much more than chocolate and cheese.

coff33pot · 07/03/2013 20:19

lougle will she like the thick milkshakes? may be build up or complan? I used to use half a sachet in milk for DD and DS when they were under the weather.

Hothead go online and book a SNMN campsite holiday with your credit card Grin

I'm blardy stuck in the LA that pays for my ds' placement that I want to tell to stuff it, and I'm pretty certain there are no cliffs!

There is the Thames however.......

bialystockandbloom · 07/03/2013 20:21

Mareeya that's very interesting. Is that why I feel soooo much better after a massive old shout? Like the endorphins released by exercise so they tell me?

I knew there was some medical justification for it, and will tell DP this next time.

bochead · 07/03/2013 20:22

butter this!

Where is the chocolate?

I have several 4 by 2's and some steel rods for next weeks DIY project if that helps?

I have ishoos and need chocolate - that's my support need.

No, to the milkshakes.

She did a good job of convincing the dietician. 'Oooh Lizzy, shoe fell off, I help you' 'Yes, but will you drink the milkshakes if I give them to you, DD1?' 'Oooh yes, Lizzy, I certy will! I driiink the milkshakes - all up!'

Cue 56 milkshakes sitting in my cupboards that she won't touch.

Maryz, last year she was poorly forever a lot and blood tests showed low IgA, which the Paed thought was responsible.

She's been much better this year until the last couple of weeks - she's got the grey look back, bags under her eyes, no appetite. Today at school she was apparently 'not with it' for much of the afternoon.

She just hasn't got any weight to lose, either.

lougle · 07/03/2013 20:29

Good idea about the meal - might be worth a shot.

coff33pot · 07/03/2013 20:35

that punch ball looks ace. We are into a pogo stick indoors at the moment....bit like talking to and excitable Tigger but seems to be working at the minute :)

Lougle, I remember your threads about the tests because it was around the same time that we started seeing a paed with dd1 about weightloss and a variety of stomach issues. I can't remember if she had had allergy testing, or food intolerances were looked at?
