Does this need a risk assessment

Ds is 10 and has currently been put on a stool (as a punishment) for his fidgety behaviour. He's been on the stool more or less since September 2012!

Currently the school teacher has made no allowances. He's in the SEN register and at school action plus. He's also currently awaiting for assessments, one of them being ADHD

I would doubt a stool gives the correct posture for school work.
Local council safety department should tell you
Look on the HSE website re ergonomics and working whilst sat down

Another nice teacher, not meeting the needs of SN children in their classroom.

He needs a move n sit cushion. Not a punishment stool. She obviously has no clue what it is like to not be able to sit still.

Fgs, what is the matter with these people???!!!

Thanks both. That's what I thought. I have a meeting this morning - after complaining about the situation and I will ask what health and safety measures were advised when deciding to place him on it for so long

So he fidgets, to get sensory feedback, presumably, and the punishment is to further reduce the sensory feedback.

Goodness, this woman has missed her vocation - she needs to be given a job in the Government with that sort of joined-up thinking. Hmm

He needs proper support plus I would expect movement breaks too.

Has he had any input from an OT?

Oh Mrs X, thank you so much, so clever of you, i've been saying for years he needs a special stool like thisto stop him fidgeting in class and help him learn.

MareeyaDolores · 04/03/2013 14:05

or do you think a move and sit cuchion would work nearly as well, perhaps worth a try before ordering such an expensive item Wink

PMSL @ mareeya

I love that stool you linked Dd3 needs one of those at home for that dining room. She has trashed 2 dining chairs recently from rocking, actually that has given me an idea, she stopped using her move n sit because her legs were jammed under the table but we could chop the legs down on the chair couldnt weBlushGrin

My DH needs one of those stools. He's always rocking back Hmm
