weighted blankets

ds is 5 and has ASD, during the day when i sit down with him he wont stop climbing on,sittingon me in strange ways, leaning against me he puts that much pressure on me it really hurts me.
During the night is even worse when he comes in to our bed, he tries to lie on top of you, squeezies right up against you and he lashies out in sleep.
It was that bad once dp went in to work with a black eye all his work mates thought i had done itShock
so im now thinking about trying a weighted blanket, not really sure if ds needs one if it would help?
advice pleaseSmile

I didn't know you could get weighted blankets, what are they or is it as obvious as the name makes it seem Grin

I would be more inclined to suggest changing his behaviour, establish the rule that he cannot come in your bed, its not an easy task and its not fun, and encourage him to sit gently on you, you'll have to remove him if he hurts you, I know it sounds harsh but he's just going to get bigger and stronger so the sooner the rules are set in stone the better IYSWIM.

I hope that doesn't read liek I'm a right nag!, its nt meant to, my ds2 is almost 4 and ASD and we have very similar situations that we're trying to phase out, its taken a year to keep him outof our bed and he till tries to get in if he can!

from what i can gather wheighted blankets are blankets with with weights in them, i THINK they are for children who seek pressure they find the pressure of the blanket comforting thats what i think it is not to sure though they why i was woundering what they are and if anyone thinks it would be suitable for daSmile
we dont mind ds being in our bed its the things that goes with it.
Im going out in a bit shopping so will check the thread when i get back. Smile

No personal experience with them but they sound simliar in principle to a squeze machine. I can see how they might be reassuring and easier on parents than constant human touch and presure.

One of the mums at my AS support group makes them - she has a website and sells them from there. She does loads of different weights and sizes, fabric designs etc and they are really well made. Cheap too. I'm at the group tomorrow so will get the details and post them up later.

i had a look on ebay was thinking of getting a blanket one ESPESSIALY for when ds is asleep BUT......
Then i seen the pricesAngry
i cant beleave how expensive they are, looked through the net and they all seem expensiveAngry
FFS it really gets to me how all the stuff you need is mega expensive, we all have to pay for lots of equipment that our children need how on earth do they think we pay for it all????

just feel really ripped off with it
